Formerly known as Manalua Intermediate School, the Moanalua Middle School is a public, co-educational school offering classes for grades 7 and 8. Established in 1967, it serves about 900 students and employs more than 50 teachers. It is located in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The school’s mission is to provide and develop the various needs of its students—academic, social, developmental and emotional needs, while recognizing the fact that each student is unique and different.
Believing that students who have involvement in extra-curricular activities that they are interested in do better in academics, the school encourages its students to participate in various activities such as cheerleading, sports, spelling and reading, music, and student governance.
About 30% of the student body is military dependents while in terms of ethnic composition, Asians comprise the majority of the population.
On top of its curriculum, the fine arts program is recognized for its being exemplary while media technology is being used across the whole curriculum with emphasis.
Moreover, it is implementing the concept of teaming among students and teachers for a few years now. A team consists of 3 to 6 teachers and students having common interests. Their activities range from having interdisciplinary units to fundraising efforts.
