Using Montessori teaching approach, the Kawaiaha’o School is a Christian school owned and run by the Kawaiaha’o Church. This co-educational school offers classes for children aged 18 months through 5th grade. It is located in downtown Honolulu.
A small school, it has currently more than a hundred students with 14:1 student/teacher ratio.
Founded in 1975, this private school believes in providing its students with education that emphasizes world peace, and holds the importance of the Hawaiian language and cultural values. It offers dual language environments in Hawaiian.
Recently, some local media took notice of the environmental education this school offers its students. With its “Schoolyard Habitat” program, it creates a classroom that allows students to interact with nature. It recently grabbed the “Hawaii Needs Care” Award that is being given by the Moanalua Garden Foundation.
The school also conducts fund-raising projects to help build deep water wells in Niger. It is on the look-out for environmentally-healthy products they can sell to be able to collect more funds for these projects.
Yearly tuition fee is $6,237.00. However, exact tuition fee varies based on grade level. For preschoolers, tuition starts at almost $700 monthly.
The school is affiliated with the American Montessori Society. This society advances Montessori education thereby ensuring its schools are maintaining the highest standards through various processes.
