Under the Hawaii Department of Education, Kapunahala Elementary School is a public school that serves all the grade levels of pre-kindergarten to grade 6. It has more than 600 students enrolled currently, with more than 30 full-time teachers. This number, thereby, makes the student/teacher ratio 16:1.
All Kapunahala Elementary School’s new students are required to present Tuberculosis (TB) clearance, student health record, physical exam, and all required immunizations, as mandated by the State of Hawaii. Another option is to present a signed statement or appointment card from the student’s doctor.
Kapunahala Elementary School meets the adequate yearly progress or the set minimum levels of improvement as specified in existing laws. This progress evaluation is based on student performance.
The School has a Comprehensive Student Support System which aims to address the needs of the studentry. This support system features different levels of support from level 1 to level 5. It involves classmates, families, teachers, as well as other members of the community as partners in achieving the goals of this support system.
Kapunahala Elementary School’s student population based on ethnicity is comprised mainly of Asian/Pacific Islanders. Other small chunks are white, Hispanic and black.
