Kokololio Beach

Kokololio Beach is one of two nearly identical white sand beaches on the shore of Laie Maloo Bay. The second beach is called Pounders. Kokololio Beach is approximately 2,000 feet long and 100 feet wide. Its foreshore is moderately steep, the result of high surf erosion throughout the year. Its backshore consists of low dunes, vegetated by large ironwood trees. The north side of the beach is backed by private beach homes, whereas the south side is backed by the beach park. Facilities include restrooms, showers, and parking.

Kokololio Beach is a long, beautiful crescent of white sand. Although it is located only 100 yards from Kamehameha Highway, it cannot be seen from the road because of the high, vegetate dunes. So, in spite of its proximity to the well-traveled highway, it is often deserted, except for fishermen and surfers. The beach is good for swimming when there is no surf. During periods of high surf, a surfing site called CYOs forms at the edge of the reef at the south end of the beach.

A few of the many activities at Kokololio Beach are bodysurfing, bodyboarding, fishing, surfing, and swimming.

Kokololio Beach is exposed to the open ocean and high surf at all times of the year, but especially during the winter months. Wide fringing reefs border the sides of Laie Maloo Bay but do not block high surf from striking the beach. During the winter months, high surf generates a pounding shorebreak and strong rip currents. No lifeguards are stationed at this beach.
